Accessing and Using the Content and Template Files in Your Tool Kit

Accessing your DOLLAR$TOP tool kit is designed to be as functional and user-friendly as possible. Some of the content documents have been provided in Microsoft® Word® format – making them not only accessible, but also editable.

The rest of the tool kit files are built in industry-standard graphics applications (primarily Adobe software), providing the highest quality and most professional results. Below is information about the various document formats in your DOLLAR$TOP tool kit.

  • Microsoft Word files (Version 2003 or later): These are primarily text-based files, containing Web site copy samples. This program is required to edit these files.
  • Adobe InDesign CS4 files: The statement insert and table tent are provided in Adobe InDesign (.indd extension) – a page layout program. This program is required to edit these files.
  • Adobe Illustrator CS4 files: Some elements of the artwork used for the InDesign templates are editable Adobe Illustrator files (.eps extension) – a vector graphics development program. This program is required to edit these files.
  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 files: All of the photographs used in the templates are Adobe Photoshop files (.tif, .jpg or .gif extension) – a photo and graphics editing program. This program is required to edit these files.
  • Adobe Acrobat PDF files: All of the templates are provided in an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). These files are ideal for reference (requiring only the free Acrobat Reader application to view them), but should not be used for final production. They are also editable, but require the professional version of the Adobe Acrobat application.

Fonts and Photography

All of the documents provided are cross-platform (meaning they can be used in both PC/Windows and Macintosh environments).

Regarding the use of fonts and photography provided in your DOLLAR$TOP tool kit:

Fonts: For licensing reasons, the fonts provided in your tool kit are for use in print production only. Both PC and Macintosh font sets are provided, but cannot be used outside of these programs.
Photography: All photography and imagery provided in the tool kit are the property of FIS™. The images may not be reused or resold by your institution or any third-party contractor.

Customizing Your Tool Kit Templates

As outlined in the last section, all of the tool kit templates will require text and/or graphics editing software. If you are familiar with these programs, adding your company's logo is relatively simple:

  1. Open the template document in the required application (for example: to edit the statement insert, open the file in Adobe InDesign).
  2. Look for the areas within the design that are designated for logo placement. Look for this text {YOUR FI LOGO HERE}.
  3. Delete the designation text {YOUR FI LOGO HERE}.
  4. Create a custom image box using Adobe InDesign in that location.
  5. Browse on your system for an EPS (.eps) or TIF (.tif) format of your logo, and place it into the image box. The logo must be in the appropriate color format for print applications.

If you wish to modify any templates to align them with your brand, we recommend that you work with one of the following:

  • In-house designers: If possible, working with an in-house designer may be the fastest and most efficient way to leverage the tool kit's collateral elements.
  • Printers: A printer's prepress department uses industry-standard graphics software and should be able to work with any of your tool kit template files. Because all of the templates are press-ready, your printer simply needs your logo (in an .eps or .tif format) and any other content changes to produce these finished materials as is. Depending on the level of expertise, the printer may also be capable of modifying and adding your brand elements to these templates.
  • Graphic designers or design firms: A contract designer or specialized design firm can bring greater resources to your overall program, allowing you to adapt and build the tool kit.
  • Advertising agency of record: If you are contracted with an ad agency, it may have graphic design and art direction services or a relationship with a contracted design firm. In either case, an agency is another strong and knowledgeable resource for further developing your program.
  • IT staff: In some cases, your IT staff may have the ability to add your brand to your electronic marketing pieces.
  • Web designers or development firms/agencies: If your internal IT team is unable to provide services for your HTML programs, seek out a freelance contractor or Web design agency. In most cases, they will provide robust service and support.

Printing Your Tool Kit Collateral

To help promote the DOLLAR$TOP program, all of the collateral elements in your tool kit are "press-ready" – meaning that, once customized, they have sufficient resolution and have been mechanically prepared for printing.

The formatting of these documents will deliver a high-quality, professional printed piece, whether it's printed from a desktop printer, digital press or traditional offset press.

Because industry-standard graphics software has been used in the development of your DOLLAR$TOP tool kit, your printer should have little difficulty accessing the files provided – whether they are on a Windows/PC or Macintosh platform. This includes the font sets provided (see FONTS above regarding the use of the font sets).

Your choice of printer (and printing process) is left to your discretion. You may ask your print representative to recommend a paper stock for printing your tool kit collateral. We recommend that you print based on the following specifications:

  • Stock: Lustro Dull
  • Weight: Varies depending on collateral piece, but 80 lb. cover stock is a minimum requirement for direct mail
  • Color: 4/4 (4-color process on both sides) or 4/0 (4-color process on one side)
  • Coating: Flood satin aqueous

Your printer may be an ideal resource for managing all of your custom changes and brand alterations. This will depend on the printer's capabilities and sensitivities to your unique brand. To ensure quality, we recommend that you review proofs of all collateral to ensure that your custom data (contact information, URLs, etc.) is correct.
